Under the slogan “Grow local, eat organic” the Department has initiated the following:

Permaculture is a natural based solution that synchronizes ecological integrity with economic development for a resilient and sustainable rural livelihood through three core ethics: Earth Care, People Care and Fair share.

The state government has supported the department under untied fund for promotion of Permaculture concept in the state. The department has built different demonstration design gardens at the Resource Centre, Ruzaphema. Trainings on the concept of permaculture to the watershed communities were imparted which have resulted in over 409 micro-watershed villages covering approximately 6,135 households taking up permaculture design gardens leading to restoring the nutrient and hydrological cycle and also self-sufficiency of healthy and organic vegetables
